• Another problem with the so-called “new and improved” page/post code editor. I was blissfully typing in new code when I suddenly noticed that the <p>…</p> elements I had just entered had disappeared, leaving only the text with a blank line between paragraphs. Other elements like h2 and a were not altered.

Another problem is that the “new” code editor replaces option-space characters (which I use to add extra spaces between some items) with   which not only takes up more room in the editor, it makes it impossible to visually align those items correctly.

Please do not fiddle with the HTML elements. I rely on them for formatting, and to see my code suddenly altered while I am still typing it in is disconcerting to say the least.

(And as mentioned in a previous post, the Add Media button which was a useful feature of the old code editor, is still missing from the “new” code editor.)

If you want to insert raw HTML, either use a custom HTML block, or convert any existing block to HTML by selecting Edit as HTML in the three dots menu.

Also, option spaces aren’t needed. Multiple spaces in a paragraph get converted to alternating sets of spaces and nbsp’s, to maintain the horizontal distance. Just hit space a bunch. It’ll work.

Oh, and to add media, just add a block for that media. Image block, video block, whatever you need, it’s there in block form.

Thanks for the tip, but my “three dots” menu does not have an “Edit as HTML” option. It only has:
    Editor
    Visual editor
    Code editor
    Plugins
    Yoast SEo
    Tools
    Manage All Reusable Blocks
    keyboard Sortcuts
    Copy all Content
    Options
(and the Options tag does not have it either, nor does the Settings icon).
I’m using Safari on a Mac.

Wrong menu. Look at the three dot menu above the specific block that you are editing. Not the three dot menu for the whole page.
