• I have been using marketpress lite as a plug in for an e-commerce website and am very frustrated with the presentation of products. Product descriptions show before the item is even selected. Looks very unprofessional and was told that it was written into the code of the plug in. So any recommendations on a different plug in?

  • Look into: WooCommerce, WP e-Commerce, eShop.

I’m glad I’ve found your post. I’m currently doing some research to create an online store and marketpress was among my top choices.

I have very specific requirements for the store, so I’m taking extra time in my evaluations. I’m even considering premium plugins like those found on woocommerce but not having trials available is making this more difficult for me.

So, I guess I will be narrowing my selection by removing marketpress from my list. You mean WPMUDev’s marketpress, right?

thanks to wpyogi, i tried all 3 plug ins. they were all decent but none of them could solve my problem.
this is starting to get a little ridiculous to me. am i the only person who as ever tried making an e-commerce website with wordpress?? all i want is to list a product for sale without having the product description appear on the category page. product descriptions simply should not appear until an item has been selected. sorry for my frustration but i have listed this question on like 10 support forums and nobody seems to have an answer for me. yet i have never seen one site in my life have a product description appear until an item is selected. i have no idea why this is so difficult. i’m not an it person but i have asked many computer wizards this question now and nobody seems to know what i’m talking about…

Then, I’m sorry but you didn’t try very hard. eShop doesn’t dictate what information is displayed for your products(s) or if it/they appear on any category page. Your theme does that – not the plugin. Did you even try setting up this product as a Page instead of a Post?

See where the text says “Who would eat something as pure as a unicorn?”
That should not appear until the product has been selected. The only thing that I want to show on this page is the title and the price….
The following link looks basically identical to the first one but this is what happens after you select the product title… the same thing…This is not good.

No. All I see is an empty home page. What ecommerce plugin are you using?

Thank you esmi, the plug in being used there is marketpress lite.
I had switched the plug in back to eShop prob while you checked that link. Might have made it unviewable. Maybe try again?
I’m not super computer savy but eShop seemed more based around posts for blogging… I’m just wanting to sell stuff w less integration for posts.

So were you saying that maybe changing the theme would fix where the product description gets displayed? This is something I haven’t tried yet. I just keep changing the e commerce plug ins and my product layout seems the same evry time…

but eShop seemed more based around posts for blogging

Actually eShop was originally developed to use Pages only for products (as that made the most sense to us) but Posts were added later following user requests. I can’t help you with marketpress lite but if you use eShop, I’d recommend setting your product up as a static Page and then taking the necessary steps to remove that Page from any menus or Page listings. The latter will depend upon what theme & widgets you are using.
