    I just created a new custom podcast channel for the first time. I created 2 simple posts with audio file links and added the media file URLs to the section called “Podcast Episode for Custom Channel:xxx” The posts are currently marked private since I am in testing mode.

    On the Custom Channel list, it shows 2 episodes for that channel, but when I click on the feed, they do not show up as items in the feed.

    Am I overlooking something simple?

    In order for the episodes to be live in your feed, they must be set to Published.

    Thanks for this reply. The posts ARE published. The visibility is set to private, but the post itself is published (and the media file is uploaded and available on Libsyn).

    In order for the files to be visible in the feed, they should be set to Public.
    Can you supply the RSS feed you’re referring to?

    This is the RSS feed: https://www.podcacher.com/feed/mappshow/

    I added one more media file to the feed (through a post that already existed) and suddenly all 3 of the files were listed in the feed.

    I’m not sure what you mean about all “files” needing to be set to public. It is the “POST” that can be set either private or public. The audio “file” has no public/private setting that I’m aware of.

    Anyway, I seem to have somehow solved problem #1 accidentally. On to the next…

    Thanks

    Looking at this feed just now:
    https://www.podcacher.com/feed/mappshow/

    I see no Podcast Episodes in the feed. Can you link to a post that’s live on your site that is using this Podcast Channel?

    Isn’t this one of the podcast episodes? I see this in the feed:

    <item>
    <title>Private: MAPP Show 67 TEST</title>
    <link>https://www.podcacher.com/mapp-show-67-test/</link&gt;

    <enclosure url=”https://traffic.libsyn.com/podcacher/PodCacher33bnw6p92.mp3&#8243; length=”46684535″ type=”audio/mpeg” />
    <itunes:subtitle>This is a test of the MAPP custom podcast feed Post is set to private Listen here</itunes:subtitle>

    Here is a link to the post. I had to change it to public for you to see it, but I wanted it to be private since this is in test mode and it is premium content.

    The episode is in the Custom Channel feed now. But, the post is set to public, so the episode can reach the feed. If you set the post to private, the episode won’t reach the feed in such a way that it can be publicly accessed.

    You said that that this is meant to be used as premium content. If that’s the case, this support document may help you out:

    Thank you. That’s the exact document I have been reading and trying to follow. I setup the Custom Channel feed as this document described. But how do I load the (premium) episodes into the custom channel feed if the posts must be public?

    The document explains how to grant user(s) access to the password protected podcast feed by using their WordPress username and password. But how do I actually build that premium podcast feed? How do I add episodes to the feed?

    thanks

    Hello @podcacher,

    Premium podcasts have their show notes (blog post) public in order to provide context to the premium episode to non-premium members and to allow for using the default channel as a preview episode of the premium episode. We developed this behavior back in 2008 based on the fact that WordPress only puts public posts in feeds, private and password protected posts require password protection from the web page to access. If you view the public page with a premium podcast in a private/incognito window of your favorite browser you will see that the player and the player links will not appear in this post, in place the message that you provide that they do not have access.

    If I understand correctly, your use case is to make blog posts “private” rather than public and still have them appear in the premium podcast channel feed?

    Thanks,
    Angelo
