    Solved!
    Air was not installed on my new Windows 8 machine.
    As a side note, UAC is troublesome in Windows 8. As a quick solution to get my new laptop up to speed with installing software and customization, I just go straight to the registry and turn UAC off, as the UI slider doesn’t fully disable it.
