  • I’m having the same issue. Please help solve this, Disqus!

I have the same problem but only noticed it once I upgraded to PHP7. I’m starting to think that was just a coincidence now.

If I try and sync the comments manually, I get the following:

There was an error downloading your comments from Disqus.
Unable to connect to the Disqus API servers

Doesn’t matter what I do, it won’t work – have even tried resetting the Plugin but that resulted in me not being able to re-enable it due to API issues again – had to revert to a backup of the site/db to get it back to this state.

The plugin is working ok otherwise from a user point of view – see https://www.epinionated.net/

I’ve tried using on a virgin WP install with no plugins, same issue so it’s either my VPS / PHP7 or a problem with the plugin.

I also noticed the same problem, disqus comments don’t sync to wordpress. This problem started for my blog last June 14, 2016. Manual syncing does not help, it just appears to run indefinitely.

One thing I noticed is there are a lot of duplicate custom fields “dsq_needs_sync” in most of my posts, although I’m not sure this is related to the problem. I already checked and there are more than 400,000 rows in the table post_meta where meta_key is “dsq_needs_sync” and has a value of “1”. Very few are null.

I suspect the cron is adding these each time it runs, so I disabled syncing for now. Comments from disqus still appear okay though at the frontend. The only problem is syncing to the backend in wordpress does not work.

Hi all, thanks for reporting these issues. We have not yet identified any underlying causes of the syncing issues, but we’re working with our team to investigate.

Syncing doesn’t seem to be working here either. If I manually sync, it looks as if it’s worked (I get the message “Your comments have been downloaded from Disqus and saved in your local database.” with a tick) but there are no new comments in WordPress.

There are no errors in the Console, and the Network requests seem to be ok.

I’m running a multisite setup on PHP 5.5 if that helps at all.

I’m still unable to sync comments from Disqus to WordPress and continue to get the message:

There was an error downloading your comments from Disqus.
Unable to connect to the Disqus API servers

All other aspects of the plugin are working fine.
