Hi, You’ve mentioned before about adding a further 1000 or so bots. Just wondering when these are likely to arrive in an update? Thanks

Hi, just updated to new version! It says around 1500 new bots were added, but my bad bots table shows 1,113 items. Confused?

Plugin updated ok, and shows version 3.0.

To get the new bots displayed in the table i had to deactivate the plugin and reactivate. It now shows more bots! thanks

I’ve noticed after installing this update that my theme is no longer showing an updated version waiting to be updated.

Previously, i had a theme which was showing a later version was available, but after installing this update it doesn’t show the option to update anymore.

Is there anything which would be interfering with the theme update process? I can’t seem to identify any bots which could be responsible in the blocked list table.

Could you also tell me what this bot is please “spider.asp)/1.1” is this to do with Microsoft?

And this bot “CFNetwork”? According this this site (https://sourceforge.net/p/awstats/discussion/43428/thread/7671176b/?limit=25) CFNetwork “is the default user agent for all requests made from iOS”

When i look up “CRAZYWEBCRAWLER” is says “This bot is used by Comodo Group to help monitor and protect non-profit websites for vulnerabilities.” (https://www.distilnetworks.com/bot-directory/bot/crazywebcrawler-0-9-10/)

I’m wondering if blocking so many bots can actually interfere with things the user wants? Would it not be best to limit blocking to known bad bots that are only a security or privacy risk?

    Thanks

    Hi

Is there anything which would be interfering with the theme update process?
    No. It is just coincidence.

Could you also tell me what this bot is please “spider.asp)/1.1” is this to do with Microsoft?
I didn’t find this bot in our database.

I’m working to improve our Bots Table Page.
    https://stopbadbots.com/bots-table/

You can find more info there about each bot.

Would it not be best to limit blocking to known bad bots that are only a security or privacy risk?
Yes, you can disable all bots and enable only some bots.

You can take a look your bots table the column NUM BLOCKED and search more about that bots.

I understand what you say. We found almost 3.000 bots. Have a lot of people abusing ours sites. Then, we decide improve our bots table page to help the pople to manage their bots table.

    Cheers,
    Bill

This is how spider.asp)/1.1 appears in the blocked table:

    Nickname
    Spider

    Name
    spider.asp)/1.1

    and what about this
“CFNetwork”? According this this site (https://sourceforge.net/p/awstats/discussion/43428/thread/7671176b/?limit=25) CFNetwork “is the default user agent for all requests made from iOS”

The last line “all requests made from iOS” i was a bit concerned about.

    Found!

    Here is their page:
    https://www.proximic.com/info/spider.php
    redirect to
    https://www.comscore.com/proximic-spider

Do you have some APP to show your site? If not, don’t worry.
Anyway, take a look at your site with one apple device, then, please, let me know.

Anyway, i have a iphone here in my hands. I just checked my sites with iphone and they are working fine.

That’s good then, i checked on apple devices before the update and it worked fine with that same bot there. I was just trying to determine if any of the blocked bots in my table were interfering with theme update notification and was concerned when i read that about blocking ios devices, but as you say it works fine.

One suggestion i would like to make is for the popup box you have when plugin is activated. It takes up almost half the screen and has some horrible looking stock image saying who, what, where, when etc… What possessed you to put such a monstrous box there on plugin activation? lol, it truly looks awful and there is no way to close it without refreshing the page!

If you would like to communicate messages to users please do so in a less obstructive way using far less space. There really is no need for what you have at present and it looks spammy.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
I will study how to improve it.
It is important give information to new users how to go ahead. But, in fact, i can reduce that for old users.
    Cheers,
    Bill

Yeah, I’m not saying you shouldn’t give messages to users, it’s just the way it’s currently done isn’t very nice.

When i activate a plugin, for example, i don’t want to see a big box with a stock image that covers half my screen. This can be annoying and could put users off.

Also, having a box popup asking for feedback everytime i deactivate the plugin isn’t very nice either.
