Hello, I seem to be finding mixed answers in previous posts so want to clear this up.

Is it possible to have any new blog posts which are published, be added to the sitemap automatically? That way I don’t have to constantly worry manually submitting to Webmaster tools…

Any ideas? Would this also work for custom post types?

    Kind regards,
    -Mike

  • It would depend on the sitemap plugin you’re using. Most will do this automatically.

If you don’t have anything installed yet, I would recommend Yoast’s WordPress SEO. WordPress SEO will handle adding any post type to the sitemap.

As far as manual submission to GWT, once you link the sitemap, it will check for updates automatically. As long as it’s in the sitemap, it will (hopefully) get indexed.

Thanks, I am using Yoast’s SEO Plugin, will need to run some tests.

You can find the sitemap options in SEO > XML Sitemaps. By default, everything goes into the sitemaps; you can just disable what you don’t want in there.

Hope that helps! Please mark this resolved on the right side!
