This site is still in development, so I’ve been making some changes to try to make it look better.

This is my first attempt at a WordPress site using the blogging features, so I’m learning a lot! One of the biggest challenges was finding a way to play audio (both single files and playlists) that would work for all browsers and platforms. Most of the options I’ve found are Flash-based, which means iPhone & iPad users get no love. I finally settled on MP3-jPlayer, which is working well so far.

I’m using a child theme based on Twenty Ten. In addition to MP3-jPlayer, other plugins I have installed are Akismet, Broken Link Checker, Collapsing Links, Contact Form 7, Snapshot Backup, WordPress Database Backup, WordPress SEO, WP Google Fonts, WP Photo Album Plus, and WPtouch.

The Hammering Bluejays Play box looks different than the other 2.I didnt play with it too much, but if it does the same as the others, Id try to keep it uniform.

I use the same plugin as you and like them all. I also use Clocky, but thats because I like a clock on my page. I also use a theme changer, so user can change to a few different themes that work on my site.

Thanks, kentucky — good tip on uniformity of players. MP3-jPlayer uses a different format for a single-track player vs. playlist player. I switched to the shortcode for a playlist (but referencing just one track) for “Hammering and Blue Jays,” so now it looks like the others. ??

I want to figure out how to remove the “1.” before the track name when there’s only one track in the “playlist,” since the number leads the visitor to think there are more tracks in the playlist. That’s not an option in the MP3-jPlayer settings, though. So I’ll check into that and see what I can find out.

The theme changer idea is a great tip also. I didn’t know such plugins existed, so that may be something I want to try.

The clock is tempting. I’m trying to avoid Flash-based functionality, since it shuts out some users, but it wouldn’t be a disaster if iPhone / iPad users didn’t see a clock on the site.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my site and providing your thoughts!

    hi
i’m new to wordpress and was looking around for posts about how to add audio to my page. i took a look at your page and i think it is terrific – and really interesting.

on a technical note, how do you use the plugin mp3-jplayer? i installed and activated it, but nothing happens. do i have to add code?
    thanks, and keep recording!
