    Katie,

Hi there. Again, huge fan. Thank you for Zotpress.

Sometime recently, I’ve lost the connection between Zotero and Zotpress. One page of my site is https://studyartsadministration.com/career/conferences/

I use a table plugin too, but on this page I have both a table plugin and just some short code: [zotpress userid=”173663″ tags=”conferences” inclusive=”no” style=”default” sortby=”title” notes=”yes” abstract=”no” link=”yes”]

It was working earlier, but yesterday when I went to revisit it, I found that all my pages that contained short code resulted in Gears turning and nothing loading. I contacted my host company (GoDaddy) and they think everything per your requirements is functional. Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Patrick

  • I have installed a new Firefox 43.0.4 Portable without any plugins. Now:
    1) Firefox with plugins: https://motnormalt.org/2015/10/29/uke-43-2015/ does load while https://bit.ly/1QAsEnz does not
    2) Firefox without plugins: https://motnormalt.org/2015/10/29/uke-43-2015/ does load while https://bit.ly/1QAsEnz does not

So it seems not related to Firefox and/or Add-Ons. However now it does not work in Chrome and IE also: strange?

WP is a MultiSite installation with the Plugin iThemes Security activated for all subsites like those I use: so I can not deactivate it and I can not change settings.
<quote>403 Forbidden on all requests</quote>I’m not able to understand why: you said you see the loading gears but are receiving 403? Do you mean 404 errors? I will try to look but I’m not confident to be able to find much I guess unless I could deactivate iThemes Security. Too much Javascript etc. involved for me.

Since it’s error 403 forbidden and appears to be working for you, I’m guessing it’s the security plugin not allowing non-logged in users to make an external website request. Not sure if there’s a way around that if you’re unable to customize the plugin to allow AJAX requests to Zotero.

Thanks for helping with this puzzle.
I need to find out if iThemes Security allows exceptions (white listing) and if possible propose this to MS admin. Hope to find what is needed.

I was not able to find a solution since I’m not able/allowed to deactivate iThemes Security.
The only workaround I found is to copy the blog post with references when logged in and paste it in the edit field of the blog post. I do not find this optimal not because of the lost updating functionality but rather because I’m not confident copy and paste conserves all formatting of images, paragraphs, listings, etc. correctly. Helping statements on my doubt or better workaround hints are very appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried talking to the iThemes Security people? Maybe they have a solution. I’m sure there’s other plugins that use external data from a REST API so the plugin should allow for this. I can’t think of another option for you. I hope they have a solution — good luck!

Thanks to my friend Wolfi (thanks) I was finally and likely able to find the culprit. It seems to be the iThemes Security Setting “Filter Suspicious Query Strings in the URL” (in .htaccess).
See iThemes Security: how to avoid admin-ajax.php call as forbidden (403)

There seems not much support of iThemes Security to requests of “not paying customers” is given but maybe I receive an answer to my questions.
Then I will try to discuss this with the WP MS Admin if filter deactivation is possible. Would be nice to find some other kind of solution since the WP MS Admin is not so keen to lower security AFAIK.

Thanks Katie for your help and support!
