Hi all, we have one root and one subdomain websites. On the root mybb forum installed. On the subdomain we are using wordpress. Now we want to switch to wpforo which is a wordpress forum system and I also heard that if you use network system you can control multiple wordpress sites with single sign on. And this is what I want, we will migrate root site to wordpress and connect it with subdomain site. Now this is where my question lies, root and subdomain have different databases (and different installations obviously), though we haven’t switched from mybb to wpforo. How can I accomplish that? Do I have to move subdomain ftp to root? And which order I should follow (like first prepare network on subdomain and then migrate to wpforo etc.).

    Any help will be appreciated.

I don’t see why you need a networked WP. Presumably wpforo uses its own post types, so its forum posts should not interfere with your current WP blog posts and pages. Even if it did use the default “post” post-type, either wpforo or your current blog could be customized to use a different post type to eliminate the conflict.

Moving a WP installation from a sub-folder to root is well documented. Your real challenge is converting from mybb to wpforo. Certainly try to find an existing conversion utility. If none is available, one could be custom coded to do the job. Depending on how each stores data, this can be fairly straight forward, or quite complicated. You may need to give up on certain features if they are not supported by wpforo. It is said “Where there is a will, there is a way.”

Just an update. The Go2wpForo tool already supports MyBB to wpForo migration: https://wpforo.com/docs/root/migrate-to-wpforo/
