Network DB or blogs DB

    I have build a network using subdomains architecture.

    Tree:
    Mainsite.com (network)
    -domain1.mainsite.com
    -domain2.mainsite.com
    -domain3.mainsite.com
    i have mapped real domains to these virtual subdomains and can access those through primary mapped domain(using domain mapping plugin)

    On the other hand my exisitng three domains: domainA,domainB,domainC. are having 3 different wordpress installs with their own databases, where there are 1000’s of posts and users.

    Through forums i have built an understanding that i can import these 3(individual) databases to 1(network) databse.
    My questions:
    1) How scalable is the wordpress network and MySql single databse ? Can this handle 10,000 users and their 100,000 or more posts?
    2) I have custom roles for users, can I give a user same access rights to all three netwrok sites , while they register only on main network site.

    Please give your opinion.

    1) Very. WordPress.com is using it, so yes, pretty big. You may want to look into SharDB.

    2) Yes and no. You have to push the custom roles to each site, but you can give users access per site, no problem.

    A caveat – Pulling in users is complicated :/ if they don’t mind losing their passwords and having to re-set, though, then that’s not SO bad.

    Role 1, should be able to access only individual sites. But Role 2 should be able to access all sites, as per your reply this is possible that we can give access per site,
    so is it possible to give role 2 access to all 3 sites? while they register only one/or main network site?

    No, doesn’t work like that.

    Everyone is given access to individual sites. If you need Bob and Joe to have admin access to all the sites, you have to give them that access personally. There aren’t network wide user groups, though.
