• First a short recap of developments in 2022

? WordPress 5.9 Josephine (2022-01-25) introduced Full Site Editing.

? The Site Editor and specifically its Template Editor allow you to create and design every aspect of your WordPress Site with blocks in so called Block themes.

? Also the header and its navigation by help of the native Navigation Block. That Gutenberg navigation block creates its own re-usable menus which are not backward compatible with the re-usable menus which themes used so far. In the era before block themes, re-usable menus were accessible to the user at: Appearance > Menus /wp-admin/nav-menus.php . If you activate a block theme that menu entry is no more available.

? In the Gutenberg Navigation block there is an option to import legacy menus. But that’s a oneshot. From then on the new Gutenberg re-usable menu has its own lifecycle. No sync anymore.

In light of these changes: What’s the future of the Nested Pages plugin?

? Do you plan to support syncing page hierarchy to that new Gutenberg Navigation Block re-usable menus?

Any news on the future of Nested Menus? Given that the new re-usable menus of Gutenberg are not backwards compatible. Am curious.

Big advantage of a classical menu

    • Can get created/synced automatically/programmatically
    • e.g. with Nested Pages ‘s ?? Sync menu function.

How to integrate a classical menu into a Block Theme
(one possibility I found, possibly more exist or will be made)

    • 1) Menu “Nested Pages” gets auto-updated from page hierarchy
    • 2) Install & activate plugin Max Mega Menu.
      • a) Dashboard > Mega Menu > Menu Locations
      • b) Create at least 1 menu location in Max Mega Menu and there position your “Nested Pages” menu.
      • c) Now the section “Menu Locations” lists the new item > Open it > General Settings > Set “Enabled” to ON.
    • 3) Now the section “Menu Locations” lists the new item > Open it > General Settings > Set “Enabled” to ON.
