    Hello,

Is it possible to create nested albums — that is, albums within albums? I want to do this to provide users with multiple layers of navigation — for example:

    • Commodore 64
    • Atari 800
    • Apple II
    • Hardware
    • Software
    • Convention
    • 2014
    • 2015
    • 2016

In the above example, the galleries would be 2014–2016.

Yes, this is possible to do, but not as straight forward as using the albums extension.
You could do this by not using the albums extension at all, and simply creating galleries that represent albums. For these “album-galleries” you will need to set the links to point to custom url’s and set the custom url’s for each item in the gallery.

    I hope that makes sense?

Yes, thanks! I’ve previously done something similar with this plugin:

Have tried this, but can’t find, where to set the custom url of a gallery.
    Any idea?

    Thank you

When FooGallery is activated, open a gallery and then click on the ‘i’ icon that appears in the upper-left corner when you mouse over an image’s thumbnail. The pop-up window shows the usual URL, Title, Caption, Alt Text, and Description fields. Just below that is “Custom URL”.

    Ok, found that.
But that means, that this “album-gallery” needs to have at least one image?
    Right?
And where should this Custom-URL point to?

I’m not sure I understand what you’re trying to do; it sounds different from what this thread was originally intended for.

Why would you want a gallery with less than one image?

Where do you want the custom URL to point to?

Here’s an example of a gallery I created where each thumbnail points to a custom URL:

    https://www.polygamer.net/guests/

Is that what you’re trying to do?

No, it’s about nested galleries like the thread start wrote in the first post.
Let’s say we have a hierarchical structure like

    Nature
       Trees
           Tree A
           Tree B
       Flowers
           Garden flowers
           Tropical flowers
       Animals

    etc.

The Gallaries (or albums) Nature (1. level) and Trees (2. Level) would contain no images. Maybe a featured image, but no gallery image.
Just Tree A and Tree B resp. Garden Flowers and Tropical Flowers would contain images.

Hope, I could point it out.

    Thank you in advance.

In this example, “Trees” is an album embedded on its own page, using the [foogallery-album] shortcode. “Tree A” and “Tree B” are galleries. The only level at which you’d need to use custom URLs would be in creating the “Nature” gallery, which is also embedded on its own page. This gallery would contain a thumbnail for each album you’re pointing custom URLs to.

An album displays featured images that are representative of the galleries it contains. That’s how it links to the galleries.

    Hi Ken,

    think i got it done.
First I did’nt know, where to enter the custom URL, ’til I found out, that it’s a property of the image, not the gallery.

    Great Plugin!!!

    Thank you
