Negative stock for customers purchasing the same product at the same time

A client of ours has pointed out that they have negative stock for a number of products on their WooCommerce based store. After doing some testing I found that I could replicate the negative stock issue by clicking the ‘place order’ button at the same time using two different browsers. e.g. If the stock level was 1, and two customers performed the ‘place order’ function at exactly the same time, the stock would be reduced to -1. Is there a solution for this? We need to ensure that customers aren’t purchasing products which are effectively out of stock.

Backorders are disabled for all products.
