Needs testing, bug fixing and functionality adding
-
An update to my earlier review. Thank you for the replies Mike.
I’ve upgraded to WordPress 4.8 Woocommerce 3.0 and wanted to revisit this plugin as the old Skyverge one is no longer supported. So I tried v 1.4
It does seem to be more reliable in the payment transfer and I do like the pop up window solution.
But on returning to the checkout review page the styling is messed up to an extent that I couldn’t use it. I know this could be fixed in my theme. But, the Angelleye plugin didn’t mess my styling up.
I tried a refund on the PayPal account and it recorded an incorrect negative amount in Woocommerce. Maybe I should have done it through Woocommerce, but it seemed a reasonable test. The order email also reflected an incorrect refund. So on a short regression test still too buggy for me to use.
I used the Angelleye plugin which worked better for me at this point.
I know it’s difficult to test scenarios, but as a payment gateway I broke it on my first refund.
Personally I would prefer a return screen with more customisation.
Still no shopping cart widget checkout option.
I know it’s free, but a little more testing could make it really good.————-
Ok, firstly I am a little frustrated as I have been using the purchased Wootheme ‘Skyverge’ PayPal Express checkout for many months including a busy Christmas period where it performed really well. Hence I was quite surprised when performing site upgrades that it seems to have been dropped in favour of this free one with no explanation. As previously mentioned the documentation link doesn’t work and you’ve also trashed the documentation for the original skyverge plugin in purchased section.
You need to sort the documentation link out as this is a payment gateway and understanding all of the settings is important! So, as this is apparently the new version I deactivated the skyverge one and activated this.
There are a couple of problems…The most important is reliability – it’s really flaky.
The logo URL doesn’t save in the settings and clears itself.
I knew most of the API settings from the previous plugin but had to google to cross check.
But I had multiple test cases which bounced back with a failed to process payment contact the website owner. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not sure if it was the local pickup option having an effect. The ability to go to Paypal Express from the Shopping cart widget has also been removed so if you hit the checkout button there you’ll never get to see Paypal Express and will have to fill in all of the forms. This also seems to have been removed from the skyverge one. Why?
So I deactivated this and reactivated the paid for, but non supported skyverge one and it’s now rock solid again in terms of transferring to Paypal. So i’ll wait for you to fix the bugs in this version. It will eventually work well i’m sure and the pop-up solution is reasonably elegant.
But shame on you for not asking existing paying customers what functionality they used and for putting out unreliable code with no documentation for something as important as a payment gateway. Woothemes and Paypal should know better! I’ve been running my SagePay gateway in parallel and was at the point of ditching it in favour of Paypal only, but given the state of this offering I think i’ll hold on it to it for a while longer!
