• Hi,

On my blog, guests can post comments. I need a plugin that checks the guests name before he posts. It must check on at least names already in the database and give a response like: Sorry this name is already taken, so no one can call himself administrator etc cause that name is “reserved” in the database.

A nice extra option would be to let it check for badnames also, like shithead and f*cker. Maybe to let it work with the badwords plugin or something?

    Thx

Thx for the link, it’s close for what I want, perhaps the plugin is adaptible…

If by “reserved” in the database you mean “belongs to a registered user”, then impostercide is the tool you want.

If by “reserved” you mean “already used”, then how do you propose to allow the person who last used that name to come back and use it again? The blog cannot determine which public user is which.

I know, it doesn’t have to do that, I just want to prevent that 2 guests can call themselves Jack at the same time when they are online at the same time. So the first one changing guest_123 to Jack gets the name. If he goes offline, the name will be available again. I know it sounds wierd, but it would prevent some issues using the shoutbox plugin.

Perhaps a temp save of the name. When the guest leaves the blog, the name will be deleted from the db?

Btw goodjob on impostercide, wondering why this isn’t in wp standard!
