• When someone converts an existing Classic post to Blocks, WordPress is stripping out (deleting) image title and other tags that are not in the image block. Two of these tags are title=”awesome text for a photo” and data-pin-description=”awesome pin description”.

This is being done without any warning notice to the user that some of their content will be deleted in the conversion process.

I request a warning message is given when any portion of an existing post will be deleted when converting to blocks.

Additionally, it would be great if there would be a way to see what content will be deleted along with an option to cancel the conversion. Users need to know exactly what will be deleted so they can save the content externally and find a way to get it back in their post. Perhaps an export of some sort for the list of data that will be deleted?

Or, of course, the best scenario would be for WordPress not to delete any content in the conversion process.

    Thanks!

  • Hi @reneedobbs. Sorry to hear about that, not a great first experience with the editor.

I had a look on Github where the new editor is being developed and found a suggestion along the same lines as yours:
    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/12162

Hope you don’t mind, but I’ve added a link back to your post here so that those contributing to the editor can see your suggestion. You should be able to follow that issue on github to see how it progresses, and feel free to post feedback directly on there as well.
