• Newbie delving into WP. Old site (URL above) done with Publisher 2003 desperately needs to be updated. WP up and running on pc laptop.Have two ‘dummy’ books and am watching tutorials on YouTube. My start is now officially a ruddy mess. I get two different versions plus a menu where I never put one. I’d like to wipe it out and start over working step-by-step with one of the tutorials. Cannot find out where files actually reside on local machine and most importantly need to just clear the slate and start over.

Have already had great response to a previous query.

    Thanks for any assistance

  • The files on a WordPress site consist of the WordPress software and the wp-content folder which contains images you uploaded and plugins and themes that you installed (more software). The actual content you type resides in the database, along with all the settings that you set (WordPress settings like menus, theme settings, plugin settings), and comments made on posts or pages, and users that can login.

So, to start over, you can delete the database and follow the instructions to re-install. Or just delete the data that you don’t want through the WP admin panels.

The menu location is determined by the theme, and you usually have a choice. But you can create a menu that is not assigned to a location. You can choose a location for the menu under Appearance > Menus.
