    Hi,

I’m based in the EU and have set Woocommerce to calculate tax rates based on my shop location as I’m exempt from having to calculate VAT based on the country of origin of the buyer.

Anyway, my question is if I should also set the tax rate to 0% for every country outside of the EU or does Woocommerce know that as my shop is in the EU, it shouldn’t be charging VAT to customers from, for example, the US?

    Thanks,
    Sofie

    Hey Sofie,

This is a good question. Are you using WooCommerce Services to automate taxes? If not, you will need to manually configure taxes.

You can setup tax rates for just your area as shown here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/setting-up-taxes-in-woocommerce/#section-13. Any location that does not match the rules you create here won’t be taxed. The example shown in the link above shows how to configure a 20% tax for just the UK. Notice how there is only and entry for GB.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with!

    Cheers!

    Hey Shane,

Thanks for the very quick reply.

I’m not and have already manually configured tax rates for the EU, but I didn’t know whether I’d have to configure them for countries that I don’t need to charge VAT for, so you’ve answered my question: I don’t ??

    Thanks a bunch!
