  • Hi @chanel7180,

The URL for the category you mentioned is what we expect to see in a default WordPress site, so that doesn’t appear to be an error. Did you change any settings to remove “category” from the URL or change the permalinks setting for categories?

It looks like the breadcrumb and category link problem caused by having a page (/breast-implant-awareness) with the same page name or slug as a category (/blog/category/breast-implant-awareness).

If you’d like only the page to appear on your site and not the category, you can add a 301 permanent redirect from the category URL to the page URL. Does that solve the problem?

    Hi Priscilla,

I was able to remove the “blog” from the URL in permalinks but “category” is still showing up.

It happens when I open up all of my posts. All the subcategories in breadcrumbs link back to the parent link until I open up a blog post. Once I open up the post the parent link then goes right to the blog on that page and does not route back to the full page.

You can see it better in this link.

Sweet Potato Fries won’t link back to Fun Vegetables or Recipes. But Fun Vegetables (without opening Sweet Potato Fries post yet) will link back to Recipes and Home. That part is working.

I’m sorry but I am new at this and if you could use Layman terms that would be awesome haha.

I added the plugin ‘FV Top Level Categories’ and that took care of the issue for the most part. It redirects all posts back to the parent category except for two pages and their associated posts.

These are the two pages that when I open up a post on their page the breadcrumb will not link back to the page but only to the blog on that page.

We looked at the relevant two pages and we see the following breadcrumbs are appearing:

    Home ? Hair & Skin
    Home ? Lifestyle

We see the Home is linking to the homepage and expected. In this case, we are not sure what exact issue you are experiencing on the two pages. Can you please elaborate more once again?

When you open up the page, you are correct, it does link back to the home page. This isn’t the issue. The issue is once you open up a post on the page and I want to link back to the Hair & Skin parent page (through breadcrumbs) it doesn’t take me back to the page. It takes me back to the blog on that page (not the whole page itself-which is what I am trying to accomplish).

Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi @chanel7180,

    Thanks for your patience.

You mentioned that you want posts in the Hair & Skin category to show a parent page in the breadcrumb path after “Home” and before “Hair & Skin”. What is the URL for this page that you’d like to see in the breadcrumbs?

Does the URL refer to a category for the Hair & Skin category found under Posts > Categories? If so, the parent category should appear in the post breadcrumb path. Can you go to Posts > Categories and edit the Hair & Skin category. Can you confirm that the Hair & Skin category has a parent category selected?

If not, please know that you can only select a taxonomy to appear in the breadcrumbs for posts. Yoast SEO does not have an option to allow you to select a page or a parent page since that’s a different post type.

That said, you can completely customize the breadcrumb path and links to anything you’d like by adding custom code. See the code examples for how to edit the breadcrumb path.
