Hello –

First of all, awesome plugin, very useful. The search=”true” and sort=”true” settings for pdb_list produce form elements that are stacked vertically, i.e.

Search:
[selector for search field]
[search text][search button]

Sort:
[sort field selector]
[ascending radio]
[descending radio]

It’s eating up a lot of screen real estate. I’d like to get rid of some of those <p>’s and
‘s and create a more horizontal orientation but after hours of combing through code I have no idea how. I see that that the stand-alone [pdb_search] function has a good horizontal orientation, but that seems to use it’s own list output for results display separate from pdb_list and I can’t see how to specify fields for the display columns or apply filters.

Any pointers or assistance is appreciated.

You can do all of this with CSS rules if you want. Part of the problem is you theme is adding those paragraph tags, the plugin doesn’t use paragraph tags in the search control.

Bot you can override that by targeting the <p> tags in the search control and giving them a different display mode. Try something like:

.sort_filter_form p { display: inline-block; }

Thanks for the response. Can you provide a bit more step-by-step detail? I pasted your above code into the theme stylesheet, saved it and reloaded the page but it had no effect. Furthermore when I search the theme CSS I’m not finding anything pertaining to forms that is not commented out.
Also, I noted that when I use the pdb_search tag I don’t get all those breaks and paragraphs. So something is clearly different, but I really have no idea what.

Adding to this: there’s a lot of CSS being loaded when viewing page source, an ideas where to start?

Related question asked earlier: the pdb_search tag presents the forms exactly how I want, but the results seem to be displayed in a generic list with the default fields and no filtering – any way to pass ‘fields’ and ‘filter’ values when using pdb_search? And why does pdb_search present search/sort forms differently than when using ‘sort’ and ‘search’ params in pdb_list?

So it turns out that this was neither CSS nor the plug-in that was at fault, but rather the Insert PHP shortcode plugin. I had the pdb shortcode wrapped in that shortcode because I’m passing it some data from the environment, and in producing the output it as somehow adding spurious <P> tags to input and select elements. I switched to a different plugin for handling php code and that took care of that. Marking as resolved.
