This is an odd one. A while back I had a problem with our web site, it simply went away completely. It turned out that two things were involved – if Yoast SEO was active, I couldn’t get to the admin pages, and if Wordfence was active I couldn’t get the main site happening. The Wordfence issue was eventually resolved by deleting its temporary storage; apparently the file system had gotten corrupted somehow and both Wordfence and Yoast had suffered as a result. I have reactivated Wordfence, bu have not reactivated Yoast yet. What I think I’d like to do is clear Yoast’s temporary storage, then reactivate Yoast, and get it to reindex the site, thus rebuilding the data structures it needs. Can you tell me what directory I’d need to remove to make that happen? Thank you.

    Hello Cwangersky

Thanks for reaching out regarding your website.

If you need to clear all of the data created by the Yoast SEO plugin, it would require you manually remove entries from the database. Please search the database for entries containing wp_yoast and manually remove the data. Those entries are:

    wp_yoast_indexable
    wp_yoast_indexable_hierarchy
    wp_yoast_migrations
    wp_yoast_primary_term
    wp_yoast_prominent_words
    wp_yoast_seo_links
    wp_yoast_seo_meta

    ?
We have more information on this here: https://yoast.com/help/how-can-i-uninstall-my-plugin/#database

Thank you, but that’s not quite what I was looking for. My working assumption at the moment is that the file system was disturbed, but the database seems to have been unscathed. In the case of Wordfence, removing only its working directory (wflogs) and allowing it to repopulate resolved the issue. Rather than completely removing and reinstalling the Yoast SEO plugin, I was thinking that if Yoast had a similar area where it kept files, clearing that and allowing it to repopulate might solve the issue there as well. Does Yoast keep all its working information in the database?

    Thanks for following up.

Indeed, the Yoast SEO plugin saves SEO settings and all its working information in the database. There is no temporary working directory or storage.
