Need to change the colors of the category dropdown

I can’t seem to figure out how or where to change the color’s of the dropdown category selector. I’ve tried all the normal CSS additions including:

.wpsc_select_variation select {
    color: #000000; /* Black color */
}

Where/how do I go about changing this?
