Hi, I connected Search Console before moving the website to secure https.
So Sitekit is currently connected to the old http and thus isn’t working
How can I disconnect this one and connect the new one please?

Thanks for reaching out. Providing you change your site URLs within your WordPress general settings to include the https once you login to your site once more Site Kit can then report on the https version of your site.

If there’s not a https property already existing in your Search Console account Site Kit can create one for you after you follow the setup steps once more, you may encounter a dashboard notice starting with “Looks like the URL of your site has changed. …”

If you don’t see this dashboard notice suggesting you re-connect with Site Kit please share your Site Health information privately using this form and we can inspect your current setup.

hi, yes I confirm that in general settings the website is written with the https
I’ve sent you all the information asked via the form, thank you

Many thanks for sharing. I can see you have the site verified manually, with a html tag existing on your site like below:
    <meta name="google-site-verification"

Can you try and remove this existing tag on your site and after doing so I can check your site once more? You have have this inserted via another plugin, a theme configuration or manually into your theme files. You can check the following plugin configurations if you’re unable to locate the snippets:

    • Jetpack
    • Code Snippets
    • SEOPress

Let me know once you have located and removed this manual verification, which I suspect is connected to your http property.

    Hi
thank you for your prompt reply !
So I deactivated one thing in jetpack and another one in seopress
How long do I have to wait do you reckon ?
    Thanks

Great, thanks for the update. If you’ve removed your manually (or plugin placed) Search Console verification tag you can follow the steps below to try and get connected with your secure (https) property, at which stage there is no wait:

    1. Temporarily switch your “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” from https://yourwebsite.com to https://yourwebsite.com in your WordPress General Settings configuration. (please replace yourwebsite.com with your own website name)
    2. Log back into your site once requested and then undo the changes you made (reverting back to the full address with https
    3. Open a browser incognito window
    4. Attempt Site Kit setup once more

Please let me know if that works for you. Note that while there is no wait to get connected to the correct property in order for data to appear there must be Search Console traffic before the dashboards will populate.

    hi,
so it worked but it created a new view in searchconsole with https://mywebsite.com instead of https …. i’m lost
in WordPress general settings though; it did switch back to https automatically
it seems to work though so should i keep like that ?
    thanks

Great, in that case all sounds good, correct that you can leave as currently configured providing your site URLs are defined with https.

Note that it’s normal that Site Kit creates the https version of your site during setup. In your case as you had previously verified your http site (using a plugin placed manual verification snippet). Site Kit therefore previously used that snippet during verification.

I believe Search Console data is also consolidated between your http/https site. The product experts at the Search Console Help Center should be able to assist if you have queries on this.

Be sure to get in touch should you have any further Site Kit related queries. And if you have a moment leave your plugin feedback.
