Need to be able to "Save" galleries/images w/out inserting!!!

I’m so sorry I ever upgraded, holy cow!! The new image uploader is really cute, but a lot of plugins rely on being able to upload images without actually inserting them, just saving. For example, I realized that if I upgrade an eCommerce I did, it is going to make adding product images – especially variable ones – a complete nightmare. It has completely crippled a Headway gallery plugin I’m using. There are other circumstances where I just upload the photo but don’t use “insert” and I’m pretty sure my head is going to explode over this one.

I’m begging you – in the name of everything good and Holy in this world – PLEASE PLEASE give us back the ability to save a gallery in a post or page without actually inserting it!! Pretty pretty please with as much sugar or Red Bull or whatever you need on top!!
