need theme(s) recommended for WP-ignorant artist's site

I’m trying to create a website for showing (and eventually selling) my paintings and other artwork. I’m using WordPress based on recommendations that it is incredibly easy to use. I’ve already made the mistake of relying on a YouTube video promising quick website creation in WordPress, which stuck me with the undesirable and complicated ‘Sydney’ theme.

I need a simple theme with easy to understand plug-ins, widgets, etc., that also has responsive design and doesn’t overwhelm me (and, as I try to create this site, I’m easily overwhelmed). Is there such a theme (or themes) someone can recommend?
