Need suggestions on how put my website live

Hi,

I have joomla website that is installed in root directory public_html https://www.domainname.com

Now i developed/migrated all the old content to wordpress and all the wordpress files reside in subdirectory called newsite. https://www.domainname.com/newsite

I want to make my new website live..

1) What is the best practice? Should i delete all the existing content in root directory and Should i move all the subdirectory content to root directory?

2) Or Should i point my domainname to the new subfolder?

Please let me know your thoughts/best practices. Also any helpful links to implement that solution.
