• Ok, so I’ve built a few sites using wordpress mainly as a blogging platform. I have a new project that (hopefully) will allow visitors to register and also save favorite images (single posts) and maybe even create collections.

I just want to know where to get started, especially on the user registration part. Is there an individual plugin I need to get started with this?

    Thanks in advance!

  • You dont need a plugin really.

Just make a link on your site to yoursite.com//wp-login.php?action=register

This is where they can register for the site.

If you want them to make posts then go to Settings -> General Settings

Make sure you click “Anyone Can Register”

Then change the New User Default Role to ….

Contributor if you want to approve the post before published
    or
Author if you want to give them the ability to post.

    I recommend Contributor

Thanks for the quick reply wpbum.

Do you know if this is the only way to register users through wordpress? I like the ease of use it appears to be, but honestly I’d rather re-skin a registration screen to fit the look from the site rather than the generic wordpress login screen.

I’m not sure if I would give users any roles, but I only want to have them “favorite” or save a post.

I havent used or seen any plugins that will make the registration form to look like your site. Guessing one is out there but havent seen it.

Most of the plugins you find will use the same form and just let you add stuff like a logo on it or more fields.
