    Hi guys,
I always wanted to use UD but not sure if it can fulfill my requirements. Here are the things that I want:

    1. Beside wprdpress files I do have some other folders inside my public_html folder all of which I wanna backup along with wordpress. Is that possible, if yes, then how.Do I need to purchase any addon or the free one will do fine.

    2. Beside the wordpress DB I do have some other database that I want to backup too. I’ve seen there is a section in UD for that but not sure if that is some premium addon

    3. If I do backup my whole public_html and all database that I have can I restore them seperately if I want or may be the whole public_html stuffs and all dabase along it. So is it possible to do or it will just restore the wordpress part.

    looking forward to the answer

    Hi,

    Thanks for asking!

UpdraftPlus Premium – https://updraftplus.com/shop/updraftplus-premium/ – can back up everything in your public_html folder, and can back up non-WP tables in your database, and back up other non-WP databases. The free version (here at www.remarpro.com) backs up only WordPress files and the WordPress database tables.

When restoring, you can restore things separately; the easiest way to do this is just to unzip and upload via FTP – UpdraftPlus backups are standard zip files. (And for databases, they are standard SQL files that you can use in phpMyAdmin or any other SQL tool).

Hi, I have no issue purchasing it for my site, but I do need to know how everythinsg is actually done. Is it possible for any of you guys to record a 2.3 min screencast and show me how to do all the things in UD premium, if I really can do all those thing, will purchase it right away.

The only reason I’m asking for the video is because I’m not familar with the UI of this plugin, so I need to see that all things I want is working before purchasing.

    Hi,

    Our YouTube channel is here:
    https://www.youtube.com/user/UpdraftPlus

If you search on YouTube for “UpdraftPlus” then there are also approximately 1,000 videos which our users made. (Some of them are getting a bit old and may not show current versions).

    Hi,

Unfortunately, I don’t have any screen-recording software. However, there are some screenshots of the UI here:

Thanks for the reply. Well tell me the this:
    1. Is it good to backup wp core? (4th option here https://updraftplus.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/moremore.png)

    2. If I do backup wp core in that case I hope it will backup the whole root folder where wordpress is installed and lets say you have installed wordpress in your /public_html/ directory, so all your wp folders are like /public_html/wp-include/, /public_html/wp-contents/ like this.

Now lets say you also have other folders within the public_html/ directory like /public_html/example1/, /public_html/example2/ like this.

Now in theory if I click on the check box to backup wordpress core file using the UD plugin, shouldn’t it also backup the example1, example2 directories along with wp-include, wp-content directories because they all resist in the same root directory?

    3. Will UD generate separate .sql file for separate databases? Also does the sql file will only contain insert into and create table statement or the create database statement too? What I’m actually asking is if everything gets destroyed should I have to create the database via cpanel and the import the sql like what we do via phpmyadmin import/exports or have to follow some other process?

    Hi,

Yes, WordPress core is backed up, together with any other files/folders in the same folder (unless you exclude them in the settings).

Yes, the database backup is an SQL file. It does not contain CREATE DATABASE statements, as that is not portable – i.e. you can’t use it to import into an existing database. So, you’d first install WordPress with your 1-click WordPress installer, then install UpdraftPlus, then import the backup. If you prefer to recreate your site manually, you unzip the zips, create the database and import in phpMyAdmin.
