Where I need that simple snippet of code would be in the container div. But what codex will display the pages I want? I know I can use the plugin Improved Include Page, but I don’t want to point it to a specific page all the time in the backend. I just want it to go to the natural page like the default template does.

have a look into the structure of existing free themes, or the default theme Twenty Eleven, to get an idea what could be with the loop.
