Need some help (beginner)

  • I have a website done in WP and am dissatisfied with the theme chosen for me. I found one I’d like to purchase IF I can get some answers; no luck so far.

    On the WP help site under “preview themes” it says “go to Appearance -> Themes and click the Preview button under any theme.” I have searched the new theme I like (Axon) in vain for any “appearance” option; On my own website, when I click “appearance” and then “Themes” I find no Preview button anywhere.

    I’m sure they write for pro’s, but maybe some clear instructions for new folks would be useful.

  • In your Dashboard, when you select “Appearance > Themes”, in the right-most panel there should be a list of the themes you have installed, each in their own box. Hovering over that box should reveal two buttons labeled “Activate” and “Preview”. What do you see? Do you see a bar near the top of the screen with the labels “Trending”, “Popular” and “Newest”?

    Thank you for the reply. In the screen “Appearance > Themes” there a 4 large boxes with pictures. The left-most one is Currents (my website) and is marked active. The other 3 “Twenty thirteen” etc. are all marked “Update available” Below them all is a simple box marked “add new theme”

    When I hover over any of the 4, I do see the “activate” and “Live preview” buttons appear. But none of these are of interest to me for my website.

    I see no “Trending”, “Popular” and “Newest” anywhere.

    Is this the theme that you were looking at: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/axon/?

    Can you post what help page you were looking at? I think the help page you were looking at tells you what to do when you already have the theme available to your WP installation.

    Yes, that is the page I was looking at, and yes, I think you are right that it assumes I already have the theme available.

    I value my website – took many years to obtain it (newtestamentchurch.com) so I am reluctant to part with it just for a theme I like. Is it true that any theme I find in the www.remarpro.com list might work for me by replacing the one I now have? Fine if I need to buy it, but I want to keep my domain name.

    In your other thread, I posted a link to another way you can obtain the Axon theme, although as you mentioned in that thread, support appears to be lacking. If you purchase the theme from WP.com from the link in this thread, you’ll have support from WP.com from here: https://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/axon.

    To your second question, if you purchased Axon from the author’s website like I mentioned in your other thread, you could use it on your current WP install. If you signed up for WP.com so you could buy the Axon theme from them, you can transfer your content (blog posts, static pages, uploaded media), but truth be told, I’m not 100% sure if you can transfer your existing domain name.
