There is a delete button for Menu Items, it just is not at the “top level” like it seems that you’re suggesting.

The problem with having it at the top level would be space and clutter considerations. As it is now, the Expand Toggle for Menu Items exists in the same space as the Delete Icon for Separators. We would need to keep the Expand Toggle there for getting to the options for changing the Name, Icon, and editing its Submenu Items.
If it were to become something like
Icon – Name – Delete Icon – Expand Toggle
Then it would make the space for the Name narrower and possibly harder to identify at a glance which one is which.
It also could lead to a lot of accidental clicks on the Delete Button when the user simply wants to Expand the Menu Item’s options. Having the Delete Button be larger and one click deeper in the navigation causes that to be less likely to happen.
I’ll log an issue for this internally, but this was an intentional design decision on our end and I do not know how likely it is to change.
