Need Opinions – Student Portfolio WordPress Template?

So I’m looking for a way to help out some of my students at the college where I teach. They’re all getting great advice to get their portfolio going and to get a website and their work on the web, but what about those students that can’t really afford it right now. Sure, there’s coroflot.com and deviantart.com and there are other places, but what I’m really trying to do is localize it a little bit. The college is Macomb Community College here in the Metro Detroit Area and as you probably have heard/experienced, it’s been rough out here lately. I’m just trying to put up a free site for all the Macomb students to get all their work exposed. I don’t have a template picked out to customize yet cause I haven’t found one that can do this and allow multiple users the ability to create their own content in a way that is actually really easy and user-friendly. Is WordPress the right thing to use or no? Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
