Need multi-gallery page with single thumbnail for

Creating gallery pages generates and displays a thumbnail for each image in the gallery on the page. With the appropriate settings clicking each thumbnail will show the full image in a lightbox with slideshow buttons to move between the gallery images.
When I add two galleries to the page each thumbnail runs the lightbox/slideshow for its appropriate gallery.
So far so good but..What I want is for there to be only a single thumbnail displayed on the page for each gallery which, when clicked, runs the appropriate lightbox/slideshow.
I have been able to remove the picture of one thumbnail (for a two picture gallery), by moving the actual thumbnail elsewhere, but the placeholder for the thumbnail remains.
This is the page I am testing with one two image gallery and one three image gallery.
