• I don’t understand why more default example forms don’t come with the plugin. Trying to do anything other than a very simple form requires trying to make sense of your very confusing and outdated documentation, which is no easy task.

Where can I find a few more examples?

    Thanks!

  • Using four exclamation marks and calling the documentation confusing (which I can understand) and outdated (which it isn’t), is not very supportive towards a plugin developer who has been maintaining this plugin for many years for free.

Contact Form 7 is a plugin that might take some time to fully understand. But when you do, it is very powerful and you can create all kinds of forms with it. If you need a fancier plugin with drag and drop or other than community support, this isn’t your plugin.

To go back to your question, if you are looking for more examples or documentation, try googling for it. It will bring you this Mini Guide by Tuts+ for example.

If you need specific help, explain what kind of form you are trying to create and someone here might be able to help you. That’s what community support is for.

The new default Contact Form 7 form uses labels, the documentation and the tutorial you suggested does not explain how to use labels. The documentation basically just said it can cause problems if people use them incorrectly. No kidding. The documentation is outdated if it doesn’t address the problems with labels more thoroughly and how to use them in custom forms. It doesn’t.

I spent hours the day I posted the original post trying to make a few simple additions to the ONE basic form example that comes with the plugin. I’m the freelance web designer not the site owner and I don’t want to have to ask the site owner for my own email address on the domain, so every time I tested the form I had to ask the site owner what the results were since he gets the form submissions not me. At the time 4 exclamation points downplayed how I was feeling at the time.

I found an easier to use form plugin and for now I’m using that. Maybe someday I’ll figure out how the current version of Contact Form 7 works on my own since there doesn’t seem to be any up to date tutorials or complete documentation, but by that time everything will change again. Life is too short to spend so much time trying to learn and stay up to date on one plugin.
