• BACKGROUND:
    I have a course open in my school’s Canvas LMS repository, which is now active.
    I have rented space on a server outside campus, where I launched a
    Feed WordPress site: https://ccr.interbeing.name
    Now, I’d like to add that WP site to my course on Canvas

    PROBLEM:
    I need from WordPress a Consumer Key & Share Secret, in order to do so.

    NARRATIVE TRAIL:
    I am following https://guides.instructure.com/m/4214/l/74560-how-do-i-configure-an-external-app-for-an-account-using-xml

    WHAT I”M SEEING:
    NAME : WordPress ||| correct ?
    -> CONSUMER KEY _________ >what do I enter ?? [ left it blank ]
    -> SHARES SECRET ________ what do I enter ?? [ left it blank ]
    Configuration Type By URL ||| correct ?
    Configuration Url : [ WordPress Url ] ||| correct ?
    When I leave “Key” and “Secret” blank and enter the data, a wheel
    spins endlessly without conclusion. Canvas support says vendor needs to supply me with the data. Host where my WordPress lives doesn’t know.

    Question
    Where / how can I obtain Key & Secret so as to add my WP site to my Canvas account for the course I’m due to teach.

    Thank you !

    Sadly this is something you have to as Canvas. I don’t think that they want WordPress keys but the APP keys you’re trying to connect…

    Thanks, Ipstenu, but I’m not grokking, not getting this, still.

    “I have to as Canvas” isn’t clear to me … but the $64,000 question may be :

    What are APP keys ?

    Thank you !

    The WordPress entry in the Edu App Center tells you what to do.

    Basically, you download and install the WordPress LTI plugin (from the link above). You’ll have to do this manually and then install into wp-content/mu-plugin (not wp-content/plugins). Then in the Network Settings you’ll see the LTI Consumer keys which you use to configure the Canvas course.

    Note also that this only works with WordPress Multisite (see the #1 requirement on the WP page link above) so if you are using the single site option you’ll need to reconfigure as multisite if you want this to work.

    I have not tried this out yet but plan to do so next week.

    Cheers
    Mark
