Need help with Visual Mode after upgrading

  • I spent 6 hrs (and still counting) doing a manual upgrade from 2.5.1 of 2.9.2 because suddenly I had lost the ability to see uploaded images while drafting a post. Although the site looks fine, I can no longer write the posts in visual mode, which appears to be all HTML. I don’t understand HTML so will need to get the visual mode back in order to continue blogging. I’ve disabled plugins and reactivated one by one and the problem still exists. I don’t know the exact files or where else to locate the problem. Can someone please provide step by step instructions since I’m a beginner with the HTML.

    I can write a disclaimer for tomorrow’s post but don’t know what to do thereafter.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing your available memory?

    Thanks. I tried everything you suggested. After checking the forum again, I uploaded the Fckeditor plugin to replace wordpress’ default editor and the Visual Mode is back, however, my original problem — not being able to visualize uploaded pictures — still persists. Although there are no thumbnails, the pictures are being uploaded, as there is a photo icon when inserted into the post but the photo image cannot be seen. There is nothing wrong with the pictures themselves (small size, nothing embedded).

    What do you suggest now? At least I can write a post but I cannot put pictures in.
