Need help with understanding SEO for products

I been trying to resolve this with research but I keep getting conflicting answers.

I have product pages with my WooCommerce site. We sell lingerie. So let’s use bras for an example.

There are dozens of different styles. Each individual bra product may have 15-20 images on the page.

We want to rank for lingerie and for bras, while keeping everything humanly readable.

If I add the keyword Lingerie to the key phrase in Yoast I’m warned that I’ve used it before. And yes, I thought that was the idea was to have certain keywords repeated.

So while trying to research this, one article said that all products should have a no index tag and a canonical link to the category page. In this case bras.

This doesn’t really seem right to me. Why wouldn’t I want my product pages to be landing pages?

And if it’s true, why am I struggling to add 15-20 unique alt tags to the images.

Any help and direction appreciated.
