• Hi WP gurus!

I’m trying to transfer my posts & comments from a blog I’ve got installed on one URL into a new installation of WP on another URL.

They’re both hosted on the same server. The old site is an older version of WP — I’ve looked around & can’t find what version it is but probably 2.7.

Here’s where I run into trouble:

After I’ve installed the new copy of WP, I have been trying to use phpMyAdmin to import my old wp sql data into the new wp database.

At that point, the new site breaks.

If I try to do anything like add a new post, and I get a screen that says

    No Upgrade Required
Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!
    Continue

When I hit Continue, I’m sent to the old site.

Anybody have any idea how I can work around this?

Or am I going about this the wrong way? Is there another way to copy my old posts, comments etc. into another instance of WP?

you cannot just import a 2.7 sql backup into a databse thats been created by 2.8.2

thats like putting a square peg in a round hole (not quite as bad, but the comparison works)

You either need to put the old blog back — or if its still available, just go get an export from within the wp-admin area.

THAT will export your posts and comments.

Take that to new blog, and use the import feature in the wp-admin area, to import those in.

If you dont do the above, you will need to set up the new blog using the version of wp that matches what you were using. Then, all other things being correct, you will be able to successfully import that .sql dump using phpmyadmin.

After that, you upgrade the new blog to 2.8.2
