Hello Google Site Kit Support Team,

I am reaching out to you because I need help removing the ownership token HTML code from my website. I have tried searching my website’s theme files, including header.php and footer.php, but I cannot locate the leftover code. I believe it may have been added by the Google Site Kit plugin, but I am not sure where to find it.

Could you please provide me with some guidance on where to locate and remove the ownership token HTML code? I have already removed one person’s ownership from my Google Search Console account, but the code is still present on my website (I saw it thought the Inspect option).

Thank you for your help in advance. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

    Best regards,

    Ana.

    Hi @miraaaaaaaandaa,

Thanks for reaching out. Site Kit used the HTML file verification method for Search Console, although it didn’t place a physical file on your file system. If you deactivate the plugin, even temporarily, you can then unverify this method from Search Console.

Let me know if you have any further questions on this. Note also, that multiple users can set up Site Kit. You don’t need to remove or unverify other accounts if preferred.

    Hello, James.

Thank you for your quick answer. I did as you said and uninstalled the Site Kit plugin, however, after one day, Google Search Console still recognizes a leftover token on our website. What should I do to completely remove this token?

    Thank you so much,

    Ana.

Thanks for the update @miraaaaaaaandaa. If there is a leftover validation token can you share what type of validation this is? It’s possible that any verification method for your site on Search Console is not placed via Site Kit. If this is the case, the product experts at the Search Console Help Center would be able to assist more than we can here in Site Kit support.

Note also that you can also use this link to check the verification details for your site.
