Need Help Regards to Index/Front Page

Hello.

I am just wondering if there is a way to stop all the new posts/replys etc showing up on the front/main/index page of your own website.

I have seen other website that are powered by wordpress and wondered how they have done that.

The problem is, whenever I wrote a post in the specific category, the message typed up would automatically be shown on the main page. Which I personally dont want.

As I want my main page to have a small introduction message in regards to my website, not just loads of posts!!!

If anyone know how this can be stoped, can you please let me know in a step by step procedure. I am new to the whole bloggin world, so would like to know how it is done.
