• Hello,
I’ve tried posting this several time but for some reason my post doesn’t show up. Anyway, here’s my problem. When I went to my blog today I noticed that someone has placed an image of a young lady on the right side of the main page. I have no clue on how to remove it. I’ve tried looking for the the image on my theme editor but had no luck finding it. The image on the source page is 0012_female_student.jpg
I’ve also tried to look for this image on my ftp server and again I couldn’t find the image. Are there any technical wizards out there who could help me remove this image? Here is the link to my website:
    https://thegadgetgeek.com/
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks everyone

  • uh, you are using a version of wordpress thats over a year old ..

    <meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 1.5.2″ /> <!– leave this for stats –>

check your blogroll, and then maybe spend a little time taking CARE of your web site.

Check my blogroll? Anyone else have a better answer?
    Thanks

you scoff at that answer? Atleast as recently as last month, there was an exploit out for NEWER versions of wordpress, that allowed for someone to remotely inject code into the blogroll.

Im not being smug or a smartass, but your welcome to blow me off. After all, anyone that is so wise as to run a completely OBSOLETE and hackable version of WP must know more than me.

the source of you image is

    https://i.nuseek.com/images/template/Large-Square/0012_female_student.jpg

somehow you got hacked.. upgrading to 2.2.2 would help.

How to fix this? You’ll have to go into the WP files themselves and find the code that is doing and remove it I think.

    Girls cute though. ??

    Whooami,
If my reply seemed a little harsh, then I apologize. But then again your reply wasn’t too polite. Anyways, if you have any suggestions as to how to resolve the problem I would greatly appreciate it. I come here not to be nasty or rude but to learn and to seek help from those who are technically savvy. One more thing I did take your advice and have upgraded to the latest edition. Thanks

heres some questions — looking at your site via the internet archive, the credit card links arent always there — are THOSE your links that you have added?

And as Ive already stated, check your blogroll.

as for being polite, i’m sorry but sympathy from me is in short supply when I see blatent irresponsibility from a webmaster. Its called tough love, I guess.

Hopefully when you recover from this you wont have to endure it again.

    Greetings mrkingid,
I agree the girl is awefully cute lol. I just upgraded to the latest version. I will take your advice and examine some files but before I do,could you please tell which files I should be looking at and what line of code should I look for as well? Thank you for your reply.

Whooami again lets try to be civil. I don’t need “tough love” I need someone who will help. The blog was set up for me several years ago by a friend. I’m no webmaster by any means. What exactly do you mean when you tell me to check my blogroll? Thanks again.

your blogroll — thats where you add links to other sites..

    Its inside your admin area.

and if you want to be civil, thats great. but I would appreciate it if my questions werent ignored.

There are credit card and other affiliate links on the site, are THOSE there on purpose?

    Thread Starter netman003

    (@netman003)

Hello again whooami. My friend added some affiliate links for Amazon, Chitika, and clickbank. As far as credit card links, those were not added. I have noticed that this blog has been spammed pretty heavily lately. Perhaps this has something to do with it? As far as blogroll is concerned, their are 4 links that have been added by me and they all link to other gadget sites.

1.youve been given the name of the image.

    2. seemingly, you have upgraded to 2.2.1, though Im curious as to how you managed that so quickly w/o any hitch whatsoever (but we wont go there), so you can rule out the core files..

then this is what you do ..

You go through the database using phpmyadmin, and you search for that filename, to see if its been added to the database.

    No hits there?

Then you do the next obvious thing..

you LOOK through the theme files, and since the image is inside your sidebar, where might you look first? How about sidebar.php??

    Thread Starter netman003

    (@netman003)

    Hello whooami,
I went to phpmyadmin and searched for the name and could not find anything. I also searched the theme files and nada.Tried looking also in sidebar.php again nothing.
I will try to look into this matter further after I get some sleep. I’ve been up for 19 hours working on not only trying to solve this problem but also working on business projects as well. Thanks again for your help. One more thing, as far as the speed in which I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress, I went to my Cpanel and used Fantastico. Fantastico will allow you to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress with just a single click.
Again, thank you for being very helpful.

Like a lot of us whooami can be grumpy. But whooami knows a lot of stuff and helps a lot of folks.

I knew when I first looked at your source there was something wrong — Look at your source in your browser of choice..

You have a completely other page, within your page.

    This is 1 page:

    https://www.village-idiot.org/broke/gadgetgeek/1.html

and then there is this second page:

    https://www.village-idiot.org/broke/gadgetgeek/meh.html

You can see that the second page is what contains the image, and ALSO contains the links I asked about previously.

Again, you need to look at your sidebar.php

If need be, you might want to compare it to what the default sidebar.php looks like — they arent going to match but I assure you that it doesnt take much to notice things that dont belong.

Compare what you see on your page to what you see inside sidebar.php..

    (@netman003)

    Greetings whooami,
A quick update. I followed your instructions to the letter and I was able to successfully remove the image. This is the line that I removed from the sidebar.php:
    https://www.thebloglinkexchange.com/link.php?userId=275

I want to compliment you on your keen knowledge and also thank you for your tremendous help. From now on I will check for updates for the latest version of WordPress to avoid this from happening again in the future. Thank you and God bless.
    Sincerely,
    William
