    Hy EveryOne!
I’m running an e-commerece online shopping website, (let suppose https://abc.com)
firstly URL of my category pages are as follow:
    https://abc.com/collections/mens-section/footwear-for-men/shoes-mens-section/running-shoes/
    https://abc.com/collections/mens-section/mens-grooming/mens-watches/
    or ETC,
these URL’s are not looking Userfriendly and google friendly!
so that, i have changed all the permalinks of my category pages with the help of a plugin as follow:

    https://abc.com/running-shoes/
    https://abc.com/mens-watches/

    that’s looks great!
but now I’m facing a very serious problem.
after changing URL’s, i have submitted new sitemap to google search console, but the problem is that new URL’s are indexed in google search engine and at the same time old URL’s are not de-indexed from google search engine.
    it means:

    https://abc.com/collections/mens-section/mens-grooming/mens-watches/
    https://abc.com/mens-watches/

both are indexed in google, and at a specific keyword of these URL’s like “men watches”
nothing url of my website is shown!
any senior here, who can help me on this problem?
    Thanks!

  • The best way to get around this is to use an SEO plugin to set caninical URL’s for each category. That will point the search engines back to the correct page when they visit the “old” page URL’s.

@catacaustic Thanks Alot for Your Help!
I am facing confusion in setting Canonical URL, can you please clear me this point.
    If,
    https://abc.com/collections/mens-section/mens-grooming/mens-watches/

    is my old url
    and,

    https://abc.com/mens-watches/

    is new url!
then which url is placed in Canonical URL section!

For canonical URL’s, the old page needs to have the canonical URL set as the new page. The new page doesn’t need anything set, or set to it’s own URL.

How it works is that Google and other SE’s see a canonical URL and use that as the “main” URL for that page. It’s main use is with sites that have the same content, but want to push one site above the others. On single sites it’s not as effective as a proper 301 redirect, but it’s a decent alternative.

@catacaustic thanks a lot for your kind response!
please help me on this topic, I have more than 200 categories within my website.
each category page has many products, now the problem is that I want to rank these category pages, but don’t know….how I will do it?
I have uploaded articles on these categories as well.
but due to pagination, the article is shown on the last page of that specific category.
but I want to rank my first page of that specific category that has the main title of that specific category.
and if I removed pagination from that category, the category page load time increases more than I think, because it takes time to load and fetch all the product that falls in that specific category.
can you please give me your suggestion!
    thanks.

OK, so how do you attach/add the articles to the category pages?

Whatever method you’re using might have some way to set it on page 1, so it’s best to look at that first before anything else.

I’m using UX Blocks method to add articles in the category pages.
there is not such an option available, can you please suggest me something to add articles in the category pages, or suggest any plugin from which I can reduce page speed during fetching of new products!

I’m not familiar with “UX Blocks”, but if that’s a plugin you might be best off asking in their support forum, of if it’s commercial, what ever support system they have.
