Need help for a beginner

  • New to wordpress. I am looking to use it as a CMS, Blog and forum. I’d like to have my site with it’s homepage, about us and so on and a link to a blog page and forum. I don’t want the homepage to be the blog page. My layout will be like this Link to sample
    In a nutshell, I need to know where to begin to create a custom template and incorporate a blog and forum – is that doable?

    Thank you. So I would follow the same format for the static pages (Home – About Us, Contact, etc) and what would I do for the blog and forum – how would I add them?

    The creation of the blog page is explained in the link provided by Shane G.

    2. Title the second one as “Blog” (or you could call it “News”, “Articles”, etc.). This page will be a place-holder for showing the Posts on your site.

    For the forum, I did it this way:

    1 – Create a new page and call it “Forums” (or anything you like), you don’t need to add content there, just publish it. This will create a tab on the menu.

    2 – Keep your forum platform (I am using BBpress) in a folder named exactly as the new page. The folder will override the page, so that when you click on the menu tab, it will take you straight to the forums.
