• I attempted to update a plugin called easy updates manager and used it to upgrade my theme jupiter and when I did I could no longer access my site. So I went to file manager and changed my wp-content folder name to wp-content1 then changed it back to the original name because this deactivates all your plugins. I was able to access my site back-end but whenever I try to download a theme or plugin it tells me Could not create directory. /hermes/bosnaweb03b/b701/ipg.qualityshop1com/wp-content/themes/serene/. I also checked my files and saw after I did this there was another wp-content file.

The first thing I would do is make a complete backup of your site.

    1. Take a look at your directory where your WordPress installation is located. Do you still see two wp-content folders? Figure out which ones contains your files and folders – it should be called “wp-content” with no letters or numbers attached. Once you have the files in there, I would delete the extra wp-content folder.
    2. After you have that, verify your file permissions on the folder.

Try downloading a theme or plugin and see if that changed anything.

Note: In the future I would not recommend renaming wp-content. There is some good information on manually resetting your plugins when you don’t have access to the dashboard.
