    Hi,

You should only submit the Yoast sitemap: sitemap_index.xml. Having two sitemaps is confusing for Google.

Please delete the sitemap.xml (doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site) then add Yoast’s. This guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#google

I removed the sitemap.xml from search console and submitted the sitemap_index.xml but in robot.txt i can only see sitemap.xml

    Hi,

You should change that in your robots.txt to add the right sitemap, below. This guide explains how to edit the robots.txt:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-edit-robots-txt-through-yoast-seo/.

    Sitemap: https://example.com/sitemap_index.xml

If you are unable to access your robots.txt or cannot make the edits, please contact your host provider.

Then resubmit the sitemap back to Google. This guide explains more: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6065812?hl=en
