• Hello everyone ??

I would like to have your input on choosing the right plugins for the following tasks on a freshly installed 3.6.1. wordpress.

I would like to be able to do the following :

    1. Do user management.
Users can register but I need to be able to approve every single user before they can use the site. Need to be able to assign roles to users. Upgrade them, downgrade them, ban, delete etc…

    2. Mail via SMTP.
Need to be able to send confirmation emails from a specific address via SMTP.

    3. Event Management.
Need to give access to certain users to enter their own events. Not every one can enter their own event, but every member is able to see the events entered by those I allow to.

bonus : giving the ability to users to communicate with the organizer of the event via e-mail / phone.

What plugins will give me these abilities (if any?).
I am totally new to WP, but I am computer literate. (I installed WP.. didn’t I?)

They have to be compatible with 3.6.1 since this is the version I have.

    To recap I need:
    1. User management (with approval first)
    2. SMTP email capability
    3. Event management

Thank you all in advance !

  • Have you searched the plugins repository to start looking for these?

All of those have numerous options available – you’ll need to look at the specifics as to your particular situation.

    Yes I have.
As a matter of fact I have found several plugins that may fit what I want to do.

The reason I have asked this question in this forum, is because I expect that seasoned WP users are lurking, and they have done already what I want to do.

So maybe they can direct me to exactly what I need, instead of trying out different plugins, and follow the trial and error method.

Smart is the one who learns by his mistakes, wise is the one who learns by the mistakes of others..

Yes, that may be true, but no one else knows your particular needs – and the first and last ones are quite broad.

You can also get a lot of that kind of info by looking at the details of the plugins, looking at reviews of each plugin and looking at the support forums for each plugin.

Thank you WpYogi for your answer.

As I told you I have already done this.
I have done my research and found certain plugins.

But I am afraid that :

    1. There might be other better ones that will do the job better that I haven’t found.

    2. There are plugins that will do what I ask in a more “integrated” manner.

Also I expect that users that have used the plugins will know exactly the minimum requirements of each plugin. If their plugins can do much more than that, I don’t mind… it’s always nice. That is why I stated the minimum that I want done.

Anyway, it never hurts to ask the experts…
