Here is my situation. I am working on a site that was broke when I started. It was at Word Press 2.8.4 but you couldn’t log into the admin panel because it said it needed updated. Actually at first there were issues like a missing wp-includes folder that I had to fix to get to the update screen. I completed the upgrade from 2.8.4 to 2.9.2. I also upgraded something like 39 plugins that said they needed upgraded.

Where I am at now – I am getting an Internal Server Error when I try to view a page. I know I have a done a lot wrong. First off I did not disable the 21 active plugins when I did the upgrade – I couldn’t get into the admin panel. I also discovered that the auto upgrade put my 2.9.2 in the wrong folder.

My question – what is the best way to fix this. Do I need to take everything back to 2.8.4 and start over. Or can I simple do a manual install of 2.9.2 into the correct folder and delete the one in the wrong folder.

Also – I still have not activated the 21 plugins I deactivated. Could this be what is causing my Internal Server Error?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Terry

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – resetting any custom permalinks back to the default setting and deleting the root WP .htaccess file?

    increasing your available memory?

I have the site back up and running. I still have a few minor issues to work out – permalinks aren’t working properly – but I think the bulk of the hard stuff is fixed.
