• Hi folks,

I’ve been using WordPress for over a year now privately and very happy I’ve been too it has to be said. I now have an opportunity to finally deploy some opensource solutions in a corporate sense and I want to use WordPress if I can.

Essentially I want to setup a project portal site on an intranet. We have a large project team kicking off on a 1 year project with upwards of 30-40 people and I want to create an info/portal site with all the usual features (shared calendar, recent docs, forum etc.)

Can anyone recommend a decent theme which would be appropriate for a corporate intranet or project portal site please? I’m happy to do some customising but hopefully not too much will be required. This is my chance to convince some suits that opensource is a good alternative.

    Thanks.

  • Well it kind of depends on the look YOU want…
I like “vanilla” themes for stuff like that personally…

Try plaintext.org and look for the plaintext theme…

You can also search over at https://themes.wordpress.net and sort it out by exactly what kind of layout/colors you want.

To be honest, while WordPress is a fantastic piece of software that I use to run a number of sites, it is designed to be a good blogging tool and one quite quickly and quite often gets stuck if you’re trying to build a portal with it.

I would suggest you check out drupal, which is what I use for that sort of stuff and is also a very nice piece of software.

    Best of luck,

    Josef.

I’ve heard Drupal is a bitch to install and admin – compared to wordpress.

I’m also looking for a decent shared event/calendar option… a lot of searching has yet to reveal a good option with wordpress. Oh well – the search continues.
Thanks for the responses thus far.
