Hi Steve, great job on the plugin!!! I’ve been a Joosam user periodically throughout the last couple of years, but the author doesn’t seem to want to upgrade his software to work with Joomla 3. It’s almost like he’s abandoned the whole project. That lead me to NGS SAM Integrator.

So far I really like what I see, but for some reason the site doesn’t list my playist. I’m running my WordPress site with your plugin installed and configured, I’ve opened my ports 3306 (MySQL), 1221 (Requests), directed the SAM Broadcaster Host IP Address to my actual internet address, created the database and my samuser ID and granted it access, and when I visit my site, I see the Requests and Top Requests pages but no song list. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong! I’m not a newbie when it comes to setting up servers, MySQL, databases, etc… I’ve followed all the installation instructions, so needless to say this really has me stumped!

If you want to give my site a look, I created a template for it at https://www.dansmith.ca/sam. I’d love any feedback you could give me!

You can hear my music at https://www.dansmith.ca:8000/listen.pls

    Thanks!
    Dan

Okay. Looking at that page, it looks like the widgets are accessing the database fine, so we can rule out anything related to connectivity between the site and the database. The widgets and page share the exact same database connection.

The only thing that pops out when I look at the site is the permalink structure. I’m not sure why it should matter, but try going into your wordpress dashboard, go into options->permalinks and choose one of the options that actually includes the post/page name in the link (“Day and Name”, “Month and Name” or “Post Name”). It may be that passing the page name as an argument in the URL rather than part of the URL is throwing something off.

Thanks Steve, I actually got it working! See, I have a Linux box too and I mistakenly created the database user on the Linux box rather than on the Windows box. I don’t quite understand what you’re getting at with the Permalinks… so I’ll leave that alone for now. The site is up and running and working like a charm. I have been fiddling with the theme for the last couple of hours and I’m finally nearing one that I like that provides me with all the necessary places to place widgets and pages. Give it a try! (Link above)

I have a number of suggestions for you though… would you like them here (in a separate post) or in a private email? For example, for “Now Playing” could you have a new widget created so that it only shows 1 song in the queue and not the currently playing song plus the upcoming one? Many more ideas… I may keep you busy!!! ??

    Cheers,
    Dan
